A whole food is natural and minimally processed. EpiCor is made using the same safe and natural yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) used in making bread. The whole yeast cells go through a specialized fermentation process where S. cerevisiae cells produce beneficial metabolites. This high-metabolite, nutritious broth is then gently dried down to a powder. Nothing is extracted, synthesized or purified.
EpiCor does not contain wheat gluten, barley, rye, oats or any other recognized allergens.
There are beta glucans present in EpiCor, as well as other beneficial parts of the yeast cell wall such as mannan oligosaccharides. However, the fermentation process produces dozens of nutrients and metabolites that enable EpiCor to act like a multivitamin for the immune system. One of the starting ingredients in EpiCor is baker’s yeast, so after the fermentation process EpiCor does contain some beneficial inactive yeast. Like other fermented products such as beer, wine, bread or yogurt, the end product is very different from the starting ingredients.
