EpiCor is a whole food fermentate found in dozens of dietary supplements and functional foods. It’s a natural, vegan, one-of-a-kind ingredient comprised of dozens of nutrients and health-promoting metabolites that work through your gut to strengthen your immune system for better overall health. In other words, it acts like a multivitamin for your immune system®!
Unlike most other immune ingredients, EpiCor has published human clinicals showing it supports the immune system in many different ways. EpiCor helps strengthen the body’s defenses by increasing antioxidant protection and Natural Killer cell activity in as little as two hours while increasing sIgA over time. In vitro studies also suggest that EpiCor acts as a prebiotic, nourishing the beneficial bacteria in your gut, where over 70% of your immune cells reside. Most importantly, published studies with hundreds of people show EpiCor is effective during both winter and springtime.
EpiCor supports a strong immune and digestive system that responds appropriately to daily challenges. Eight human clinical trials together with pre-clinical and cellular studies show that EpiCor promotes healthy digestive function and supports year-round respiratory health.

A whole food is natural and minimally processed. EpiCor is made using the same safe and natural yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) used in making bread. The whole yeast cells go through a specialized fermentation process where S. cerevisiae cells produce beneficial metabolites. This high-metabolite, nutritious broth is then gently dried down to a powder. Nothing is extracted, synthesized or purified.
A prebiotic is food for the beneficial bacteria in your digestive system. Prebiotics nourish the good bacteria in your digestive tract so they grow and multiply which keeps your gut healthy.
Yes, multiple published safety and human clinical studies confirm that EpiCor is safe for adults and children. Also, an independent panel of food safety experts concluded EpiCor meets FDA requirements to be considered GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe). Finally, Embria provided to the US Food and Drug Administration comprehensive safety data on EpiCor as part of its New Dietary Ingredient Notification.
Products containing EpiCor are sold in the United States, Canada and elsewhere throughout the world. Visit our "Where to Buy" section to find products containing EpiCor or call toll free 877-362-7421.
Immune boosters are certain ingredients that only stimulate the immune system, and do not provide balanced strength. Knowledgeable medical professionals should typically recommend consuming immune boosters for only a short time-frame so the booster will not over-stimulate your system and cause immune fatigue.
In the case of some autoimmune disorders, allergies and inflammatory disease, the immune system is already over-stimulated, so further stimulation by a booster may lead to additional, unanticipated problems.
Immune strength on the other hand, is the optimal state of immune health that allows the body to appropriately respond when challenged.
Immune strength means that your immune system is able to respond appropriately when faced with different challenges in order to keep you feeling your best. Everyday your immune system is constantly being challenged by viruses, bacteria, environmental toxins and other pathogens. Stress, lack of sleep and poor nutrition can also affect your immune health.
All eight published human studies on EpiCor used a daily dosage of 500 mg for adults.
Our immune systems are constantly being challenged everyday, not just during specific times of the year. EpiCor is a safe and natural way to support daily immune and GI health.
EpiCor is not known to upset your stomach like some ingredients. EpiCor can be taken with or without a meal, during any time of the day and in multiple doses. For our human clinical studies, subjects took EpiCor first thing in the morning.
All seven published human studies on EpiCor used a daily dosage of 500 mg for adults. For children, the recommended dosage is 125 mg per 40 lbs of body weight, as calculated as a fraction of the adult dose.
While we have no reason to believe that EpiCor would be harmful to those with an autoimmune disorder, it is always advised to consult with your healthcare provider before beginning any supplement program.
EpiCor does not contain wheat gluten, barley, rye, oats or any other recognized allergens.
No, the microorganism used to make EpiCor is unrelated to the yeast that causes infections. The yeast species Candida albicans is a known pathogen and causes common yeast infections in humans. EpiCor is made with a yeast that has thousands of years of remarkably safe use for many beneficial foods and ingredients.
EpiCor and its manufacturing process have been certified by the Orthodox Union (OU) as Kosher.
The common and usual name for EpiCor is “dried fermentate (made using Saccharomyces cerevisiae).” This is the identity Embria used in its NDI notification to the FDA and in current documentations.
A daily consumption of up to 3.0 grams (3,000 mg) of EpiCor is acceptable for adults and up to 500 mg of EpiCor for children over the age of four years old. Although higher levels may also be safe, these are the levels presented in Embria’s NDI for EpiCor.
All of the published human clinical trials were done on healthy adults consuming a daily dose of 500 mg of EpiCor. Embria used the accepted practice of attributing efficacy to children based on body weight in our NDI with the FDA and established that the efficacious dose of EpiCor for children is a daily dose of 125 mg of EpiCor for every 40 lbs. of body weight.
EpiCor is considered Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) according to an independent panel of experts who evaluated a comprehensive body of peer-reviewed literature and related information regarding the safety, identity, method of manufacture, composition and specifications for EpiCor. Based on this review, the experts concluded that EpiCor is GRAS for use as a nutritional supplement, a flavoring agent and an antioxidant in all food at levels as high as 3.0 grams daily.
This GRAS determination complies with the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FD&A) as well as the other laws and regulations administered by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which include it’s policies for all GRAS determinations and notifications. The GRAS panel was comprised of independent experts with extensive knowledge in the areas of food safety and toxicology. Their backgrounds included former leadership roles within the FDA, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other governmental and academic institutions that focus on health and safety.
EpiCor is the dried fermentate resulting from the anaerobic fermentation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which has a history of safe use that goes back for thousands of years. The technology for EpiCor brand dried fermentate has been studied and used for over 70 years. All nutrients used to manufacture EpiCor are “food grade” and of the highest quality.
To further substantiate EpiCor’s safety, Embria commissioned a scientific paper on the safety of EpiCor, which was published in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Toxicology. An online abstract of the article can be found at:http://ijt.sagepub.com/content/31/1/34.
EpiCor is produced according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) for food, as promulgated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 110. In addition, Embria applies FDA's principles for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) to prevent contamination from foreign matter. Embria’s cGMP standing is certified by NSF for the sale, distribution or use of EpiCor.
